What is a hydrocolloid dressing?

The hydrocolloid dressing is a dressing occlusive based on sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Upon contact with wound exudates, its inner layer transforms into a gel, creating a warm, humid environment conducive to healing. It adheres to healthy skin without sticking to the wound, making its removal painless.

It is indicated for the chronic wounds with low to moderate exudate for healthy skin: pressure ulcers, ulcers, abrasions. Listed in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPP) under Title I, Chapter 3, it is among the dressings covered by Health Insurance with a prescription.
